Naan Bread (no yeast)
This fluffy, light and tasty
naan bread recipe is ready in just 20 minutes with 5-6 simple ingredients from
the cupboard! Vegan, gluten-free and a yeast
free bread.
Ingredients
- 250 g (2 cups) plain (all purpose) flour
- 250 g (1 1/4 cups) plain yogurt (or dairy free yogurt)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Butter (optional)
- Nigella seeds (optional)
Instructions
1. Mix all ingredients
together in a large bowl. Use your hands to bring it
all together. Knead it for a minute or so in the bowl until it comes together
in a fairly sticky ball. If necessary, add a little more flour to make it
manageable.
2. Cover the bowl with
a damp cloth and leave dough to rest and rise for 30 mins - 1 hour.
3. Divide it into six
equal pieces. Using a rolling pin dusted with flour, roll each one out onto a
floured surface to about 6” diameter.
4. Heat a frying pan/griddle
(without oil) until hot. Cook each
flatbread for a few minutes on each side until lightly golden
spots appear and it puffs up.

and coriander (optional)
Tips:
- For additional flavourings, brush on wet flavourings garlic infused butter. herb/chilli oil or simply plain butter
- You can add dry spices to the dough, such as cumin, garam masala, etc...
- For best results your frying pan or griddle pan should be very hot – the naans should cook quickly.
- To make gluten-free naan: swap to your favourite gluten-free flour and adjust the amount as it might absorb the yogurt differently.
- To make vegan naan: swap to dairy free yogurt, ie; soy yogurt.
